July 2017 Goals

Self CareHannah DrakeComment

I've decided that I much more enjoy tracking my goal progress when I can expand on each goal and talk about successes, challenges, obstacles, etc. So I've decided to start that this month! I think I underestimated the chaos and lack of routine for June, but now can fall into that in our new place while Luke is back at work. Therefore, a lot of the goals are repeats from June. Basically what I thought I'd accomplish right away after the move, without really giving myself time to settle in or embrace the chaos.

June 2017: Join a new small group.
Luke and his friend host a group through their church every Thursday night, which I have taken part of since I moved, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind and I still want to find a small group that's more of a Bible study or a place to discuss life with a set group of people who are committed to the integrity of the group.
July 2017: Schedule 30 minutes each morning for quiet time with God.

June 2017: Move savings to a higher interest account.
I just didn't have the time to look into this before I left, but I was able to apply for a CD online and get the ball rolling from England.
July 2017: Make and stick to a budget.

June 2017: Find a permanent home.
I think I jumped the gun on this one. We didn't move into our sublet until the end of the month and we prioritized getting some roots down for me over looking for a place, so we just simply didn't have time. We'll start to look this month.
July 2017: Set aside time each evening for each other without the TV on.

June 2017: Take up two new hobbies.
A new friend took me to Tiger, which she aptly described as a mini IKEA on hallucinogenics. There, I purchased watercolors, paper, and brushes to give it a go. However, I was hoping to find a hobby that would also create a social circle for me separately from Luke and his social life.
July 2017: Be more bold in creating space to make new friends.

June 2017: Read one of the books I'm taking.
Two of the books I brought were (obviously) my copies of the first two illustrated Harry Potter books. I had started rereading Chamber of Secrets earlier this year, so I've been carrying on with that book for now.
July 2017: Unplug for the first 30 minutes of the day, every day.

June 2017: Find a yoga class to join.
I'd love to have something on my schedule that I can stick with, but with the move from house to house at the end of the month, I haven't had a chance to find something nearby our summer sublet. I don't have my yoga mat in England yet, so I'll open it up to any fitness routine, but it is really important to me to find something soon.

June 2017: Follow a meal plan.
Again, the last month has just been too chaotic to find any sort of routine. We tried to make healthy choices at the grocery store and opt for home cooked meals over eating out unless in a social gathering. We just need more practice planning our meals for the week and going to the grocery store once or twice a week instead of every day.

June 2017: Blog twice a week.
Despite spending most of my downtime with Netflix, I was able to average 2 posts a week in June. Though I suppose Netflix makes for good multitasking with blogging. And to be clear, I don't consider myself to be a professional blogger, but I can't work right now and my blog seems like a good outlet to funnel creative energy into.
July 2017: Brainstorm blog ideas and begin drafting posts.
